PRTZ grow & play: school and kindergarten extension
The existing kindergarten and school in Prötzel, a village close to Berlin, is being expanded with rooms for the kindergarten and after school care. The new building mediates between the heterogeneous buildings of the existing school and kindergarten and provides inviting spaces for children and educators in a compact volume. The size and shape of the building cubature relates to its immediate surrounding. The playfully offset pitched roof blends subtly into the existing ensemble. In addition to being highly functional, the chosen materials are natural and sustainable. The spacious rooms full of light are built with a wooden construction and the lively wooden facade forms a pleasant contrast to the large windows in the group rooms.
